Roman Weapons

Whilst some of these were listed on the MRQ board, I thought it might be useful for those interested in Roman weapons if these were added here. Some may well be superceded by the forthcoming Arms & Equipment guide.

GLADIUS
The classic Roman short sword used by mainly for stabbing. May Impale.
Skill:1H Sword, Dmg:1D4+2, STR/DEX:7/7, ENC:1, AP/HP:3/10

HOPLON
A very large shield used by early Romes enemies and the Greek states. Quality may vary widelye.
Skill: Shield, Dmg 1D6, STR/DEX:11/-, ENC:4, AP/HP: 12/12

PILUM
The classic Roman short spear, not necessarily given to all legionairres. Some ranks may well have had ordinary spears and javelins. May impale and may be set against a charge,
Skill: 1H Spear, Dmg:1D8, STR/DEX:7/5, ENC: 2, AP/HP:2/6
Skill: Throwing, Dmg:1D6+2, Range: 20m, STR/DEX:7/9, ENC: 2, AP/HP:2/6
(If the Pilum criticals and is parried by a shield, it is stuck in the shield adding it's own ENC to the shield's ENC AND STR requirement to wield. For example, a target shield struck by a Pilum has ENC 4 (2+2) and a STR requirement of 11 (9+2)).

PUGIO
The chunky dagger carried by legionairres.
Skill:Dagger, Dmg:1d4, STR/DEX:-/-, ENC:(.5), AP/HP:3/6

SCUTUM
The classic square shield of the Early Imp[erial legions, which was never used by all the legions. it can be classed as a target shield or as the following:
Skill: Shield, Dmg 1D6, STR/DEX:11/-, ENC:3, AP/HP: 10/14

SICA
A slightly curved short-sword used by a Thracian in the arena's. May Impale.
Skill:Dagger or 1H Sword, Dmg:1d3+2, STR/DEX:-/9, ENC:1, AP/HP:3/8

SHIELDS
The common circular legionary shield can be classed as a target shield, the smaller shield used by skirmishers as a buckler. The auxiliaries clipeus could be a target shield. For the Scutum and Hoplon, refer to those entries.

SPATHA
The cavalry sword, eventually used by later legionairres/scutatoi. Primarily a slashing weapon.

RHOMPHAIA
Initially used by their opponents this was feared by the legionairres. The Rhomphaia is a double-handed weapon with a curved blade. In later periods it was the weapon used by the Emperor's personal bodyguard.
Skill: 2H Axe, Dmg: 2D6, STR/DEX: 13/11, ENC:2, AP/HP: 3/10
