Truestone
From MRQWiki
In the Golden Age, and Lesser Darkness, the Spike dominated central Glorantha. It was a huge mountain made from Solidified Law, otherwise known as Truestone. When the Spike exploded, most of it was destroyed, but some pieces remained. The largest piece was The Block, a huge cube of Truestone that crushed the Devil in Prax. But, other smaller pieces fell from the Sky and have been found all over Glorantha. These are Truestones.
A Truestone is a piece of rock unlike any other. It varies in colour and can actually be of any colour or any pattern. Truestones also vary in size, ranging from chips the size of a fingernail to huge blocks, the size of a house. All Truestones detect as magical.
The Block is the prime source of Truestones, but there are other sources and Truestones can be found almost anywhere, but finding one should be a very rare event indeed.
There are two types of Truestone, Blank and Set. Blank Truestones have not been touched by a Divine Magician and are in their raw state. Set Truestones have been filled previously with Divine Magic and cannot be altered.
Any Divine Magician touching a Blank Truestone must make a Persistence roll -40% or fill the Truestone with all his Divine Magic. Filling a Truestone is described below.
To fill a Truestone, you must cast Divine Magic into it. A priest who failed his Persistence Roll must cast all his Divine Magic into the Truestone. Someone with no Divina Magic or someone who had made his Persistence Roll may cast some, all or no Divine Magic into the Truestone. A priest casting Divine Magic into a Blank Truestone does not get the Dedicated POW back, it is lost forever.
When you cast Divine Spells into a Truestone, the Truestone is Set. This means that the spells in the Turestone cannot be changed and can be used by anyone picking up the Truestone. In the same way as an enchantment, spells cast from a Truestone work automatically, without the need for a Lore(Specific Theology) roll.
Anyone who is not chaotic may use a Truestone, those who are Chaotic just treat is as a chunk of rock, they cannot fill it or use it.
Once a spell has been used from a Truestone, it is emptied and must be refilled. Any priest who has the spell can cast his own spell into the Truestone to fill that spell up. A Priest cannot fill up part of a spell, so if a Truestone has Shield 6 then a Priest must cast Shield 6 into the Truestone to fill it up, even if the Truestone had only had Shield 4 used up. Once the spell is cast, the priest gets the Dedicated POW back, but not before. Spells may be filled by a Priest with a different Lore (Specific Theology) than the priest who filled the Truestone, so if a Truestone is set with Shield 4 by a Priest with Lore (Orlanth Theology), it may be refilled by a Death Lord with Lore (Zorak Zoran Theology).
Here's an example of how I see it working:
So, Soltak Stormspear gets a blank Truestone and fills it with Teleport, Lightning 4 and Shield 4. He loses those spells and does not get the Dedicated POW back. He uses the spells over time and empties the Truestone and again does not get back the Dedicated POW. Since the Truestone has been set, he cannot add different spells to it, it is set as "Teleport, Lightning 4 and Shield 4".
Then he needs to go on a mission and asks another Rune Priest of Orlanth to charge the Truestone with Teleport. When Soltak casts the Teleport, the other Priest gets the Dedicated POW back.
Truestones are typically worth 10,000 Silvers per point, but are very rarely sold.
Can Truestones be used to store Runemagic, Sorcery or other types of magic? Maybe, I don't know. Perhaps someone else can add some rules for these other types of magic.
